Penguins' Colin White: Hits waivers

White was placed on waivers Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

White's placement on waivers could be an indication that Matt Nieto (knee) is nearing a return to action. Look for White, who's gone scoreless through 11 NHL appearances this year, to head to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the likely event he passes through waivers unclaimed.
