Mermis was waived Friday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Mermis started off the season in fine form with two goals and four points in his first four games. But the 29-year-old blueliner couldn't keep it up -- he's picked up just one assist in his last eight games. Should Mermis pass through waivers, he will presumably be sent to AHL Iowa.
