Shane Lowry made just the 10th hole in one in the history of the famous par-3 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass during the third round of the 2022 Players Championship on Sunday. The ace allowed him to make a nice jump on the leaderboard as he looks to jump into contention entering the final round.
The pin for Round 3 was at the front of the green where we've seen aces fall in past years, and it was playing a mere 123 yards. As good as the shot was (and it was awesome), the reaction from Lowry -- who has always provided tremendous reactions -- was even better.

Lowry's 1 is just the fourth since 2002 on the 17th and the first since Ryan Moore did it to open play in 2019. It pushed Lowry close to the lead as he went from 2 under to 4 under with one swing of the club. Here's a look at all the aces in the history of one of the most famous holes in golf.
Player | Round | Year |
---|---|---|
Brad Fabel | 1 | 1986 |
Brian Claar | 3 | 1991 |
Fred Couples | 4 | 1997 |
Joey Sindelar | 1 | 1999 |
Paul Azinger | 3 | 2000 |
Miguel Angel Jimenez | 1 | 2002 |
Willy Wilcox | 2 | 2016 |
Sergio Garcia | 1 | 2017 |
Ryan Moore | 1 | 2019 |
Shane Lowry | 3 | 2022 |
The 2019 Open Championship winner now has two aces in his PGA Tour career, and they're the exact two you want to have if you get to pick the hole and the tournament.
