Rangers All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Frisco.

He has been on the disabled list due to a strained muscle in his ribcage, but Wednesday he took grounders and a full session of batting practice and now says he's ready to be back.

"I haven't had anything physical to tell me not to continue to push it, continue on the same path," Kinsler said (MLB.com). "Hopefully I can get on the field real quick."

MLB.com also reports that Kinsler will be a DH on Thursday night and then play second base Friday and Saturday. If all goes well, it's possible Kinsler is activated in time to play for the Rangers Sunday.

Kinsler, 30, is hitting .302/.369/.500 with 11 doubles, seven homers, 20 RBI and 24 runs scored in 40 games this season. The three-time All-Star is also one of the better defensive second basemen in the league, too, so he'll provide an obvious boost for the Rangers upon return.
