Lance Berkman

Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman is back on the disabled list after leaving Saturday's game with the Dodgers with a knee injury. Sunday, the Cardinals officially announced the roster move, with Matt Adams being called up as a corresponding move.

Berkman fell after catching a throw from shortstop Rafael Furcal for the third out in the second inning. Manager Mike Matheny and trainer Chris Conroy helped him up, but as Berkman tried to walk to the dugout, he went down again before being helped off the field.

Berkman has played in just 13 games this season because of a calf injury. He hurt the calf earlier in the season and tried to play through it, but ultimately missed 21 games on the disabled list.

The Cardnials have already put center fielder Jon Jay, outfielder and first baseman Allen Craig and reliever Kyle McClellan on the disabled list in the last week. Right fielder Carlos Beltran has also been slowed by a right knee injury.

Adams, 23, was hitting .340/.375/.603 with nine homers, 27 RBI and 20 runs in 37 Triple-A games before his promotion.
