The Yankees are the front-runner to sign outfielder Nate Schierholtz, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
The 28-year-old outfielder was recently non-tendered by the Phillies and has been drawing a fair amount of interest on the market. Schierholtz made $1.3 million last season and was due for a raise in arbitration, which is likely the reason the Phillies cut him loose.
In 269 plate appearances last season, Schierholtz hit .257/.321/.407 with the Giants and the Phillies. He was used primarily against righties last season and hit .287/.360/.466 against them.
