Major League Baseball completed its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday night. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.

With the No. 9 overall pick, the Colorado Rockies selected Zac Veen, a right fielder out of Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Florida. Veen was the No. 6 overall prospect on R.J. Anderson's big board. The Rockies earned an A for their class from CBS Sports experts.

The Rockies landed three players on our top 50: outfielder Zac Veen, catcher Drew Romo, and right-hander Chris McMahon. Veen could mature into a middle-of-the-order hitter; Romo a defensive-minded reserve or second-division starter; and McMahon either a three-pitch starter or reliever, depending on what his body permits. Landing Veen and McMahon where they did makes this a fine haul.

Below are all of the Rockies' picks.
