Early Sunday morning the baseball world lost one of its best and brightest young stars. Marlins ace Jose Fernandez and two others were killed in a boating accident in Miami. The Marlins have confirmed the news and canceled Sunday's game.
Fernandez, who was only 24, burst onto the scene in 2013 after jumping to the big leagues straight from Single-A ball. He had been not only one of the most dominant pitchers in the game since, but also one of the most energetic and infectious players in the league. Fernandez was pure joy on the baseball field.
As you'd expect, the baseball world reacted to the news of Fernandez's death with shock and sadness. Here are some reactions from Fernandez current and former teammates, as well as his close friends within the game. (Check here for on-the-field reactions.)
