Marlins slugger/merchant of the absurd Giancarlo Stanton is of course no stranger to these parts, what with his penchant for hitting balls hard and also far. Typically, though, he sets the cameras rolling because he propels the ball 475 feet or so. On Monday night against the Cubs, however (GameTracker), he dropped our jaws by "merely" sneaking one over the wall.

Well then. There are opposite-field homers, and then there are opposite-field sci-fi phasers that leave the park on a line in about two seconds. Seriously, did that ball ever rise higher than 20 feet off the ground?
I've rhapsodized before about Stanton's habit of not crowding the plate. His centering himself in the box seems to tempt the pitcher to work him away, but, as Stanton has proved time and again, he'll happily smush the ball the other way. Yes, Jason Hammel missed his spot a bit here, but it was still outer third. In other words, don't work Stanton outside.
Don't work him inside or over the plate, either, but that's a topic for another day/homer.
