LaVar Ball predicts Lonzo will win NBA Rookie of the Year: 'It's already a done deal'

Lonzo Ball played his first NBA game on Friday, but his father LaVar says he's already won the Rookie of the Year award.

Lonzo made his NBA debut on Friday in a MGM Resorts Summer League game between the Lakers and Clippers, and at halftime LaVar appeared on the ESPN broadcast to discuss his son. After once again guaranteeing that the Lakers will make the playoffs this season, he was asked for a Rookie of the Year prediction.

You can guess how that went.

"Rookie of the Year? It's already a done deal," Ball said. "I got the trophy already. Hey, Rookie of the Year -- how could he not be?"

Watch his answer around the 2:50 mark of the video below.

He's talking about Lonzo, in case you couldn't figure it out.

Lonzo played well in the first half of his debut, including a dazzling alley-oop on his first NBA possession, but he still has a long way to go in his rookie year. Ball's pass-first mentality may hurt him with the Lakers, at least in terms of statistics -- you can't get assists unless the players on your team make shots.

Lonzo will likely have some stiff competition for the award, including the last two No. 1 picks, Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons, who both play for the 76ers.

For now we'll just have to wait and see if LaVar is forced to give back that Rookie of the Year trophy next April.
