Justin Gilbert was involved in a road-rage incident Friday afternoon that ended with him crashing his car, but the Browns' second-year cornerback was unharmed, according to authorities.

Gilbert drove his Dodge Challenger into a drainage ditch while trying to get away from man in a Ford Mustang who had been trailing him, said Brunswick (Ohio) police Sgt. Robert Safran, via Cleveland.com.

Police received several 911 calls from witnesses -- as well as both men involved -- and several onlookers said the man in the Mustang was "driving like a maniac."

The incident began, according to the Mustang's driver, a 55-year-old man from Parma, when Gilbert cut him off. The two men “exchanged middle finger gestures,” according to Safran, and the man in the Mustang then decided to follow Gilbert.

Gilbert exited Interstate 71 in Brunswick, and he crashed into the ditch after trying to turn into his driveway. The driver of the Mustang remained at the crash site until authorities arrived.

Gilbert was cited for driving with a lack of reasonable control and ticketed. The driver of the Mustang was cited for disorderly conduct.

The Browns, meanwhile, open the season Sunday on the road against the Jets.
