The Miami Dolphins have played their games in the same stadium since 1986. That stadium, though, has had many different names. And now it will have yet another. It's the eighth name, to be exact: Hard Rock Stadium.

The stadium had been known as Sun Life Stadium since 2010. That's the longest period it held the same name since it was called Pro Player Stadium from 1996 through 2005. Here's the timeline:

  • Joe Robbie Stadium: 1987-96
  • Pro Player Park: 1996
  • Pro Player Stadium: 1996-2005
  • Dolphins Stadium: 2005-06
  • Dolphin Stadium: 2006-09
  • Land Shark Stadium: 2009-10
  • Sun Life Stadium: 2010-16
  • Hard Rock Stadium: 2016-?

At this point, the Dolphins have had almost as many stadium names as they have starting quarterbacks since Dan Marino's retirement. They've been led in starts in a season by nine different QBs since 2000: Jay Fiedler, A.J. Feeley, Gus Frerotte, Joey Harrington, Cleo Lemon, Chad Pennington, Chad Henne, Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill.

Who knows, though? If Tannehill solidifies himself as the starter and stays there for a while, maybe the list of stadium names will catch up.
