The Vancouver Canucks haven't been shy about injecting veteran depth into their rebuild, and that trend continued Friday with the announcement that Thomas Vanek has been signed to a one-year contract.

Vanek, 33, joins his seventh different team in five years by signing with the Canucks, who will enter 2017-18 under new coach Travis Green.

Traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Florida Panthers during the 2016-17 campaign, Vanek finished last season with 48 points and has eclipsed the 40-point mark every season since he made his NHL debut in 2005-06 with the Buffalo Sabres. At this point in his career, he's known as much for his movement on the league transaction log as his ability to contribute from the bench, but he does offer the Canucks some more proven offense as Vancouver looks to improve upon a 30-43-9 finish in 2016-17.

The team welcomed other veterans, including Sam Gagner and Michael Del Zotto, in free agency this summer.
