Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 1, 1997) -- CBS SportsLine (cbs.sportsline.com) today launched its premier Active Channel content for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, the new version of Microsoft's Web browser. The CBS SportsLine Active Channel content is featured as a pre-configured channel on the Channel Bar shipping with Internet Explorer 4.0.

Taking advantage of the latest "push" technology, which "webcasts" information on requested topics directly to the user, the CBS SportsLine Active Channel content features 11 main avenues, covering each major professional and college sport. Each avenue includes the top stories and the latest scores specific to that sport. Users may also personalize channels to select specific teams. Links are also provided to CBS SportsLine's award-winning Web site for those interested in more details on each story, game or team.

Through this alliance with Internet Explorer, CBS SportsLine, a leading provider of sports information and entertainment on the World Wide Web, will gain an important new distribution source for its service. The CBS SportsLine Active Channel content is available exclusively to Internet Explorer 4.0 users.

"The Active Channel content we have created for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 will introduce CBS SportsLine to a whole new base of users," said Michael Levy, president and C.E.O. of SportsLine USA, Inc., the publisher of CBS SportsLine. "It also enables our current users to take advantage of the latest 'push' technology, allowing them the most convenient access to our service."

"The Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Channel content is a showcase of the best in Web publishing, and we're very pleased that CBS SportsLine has joined us as a premier Active Channel partner," said Brad Chase, vice president, developer relations and Internet marketing at Microsoft Corp. "The high caliber of its sports content provides an engaging Web experience for Internet Explorer users."

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Channel content reinforces the Internet Explorer 4.0 goal of delivering "the Web the way you want it": premier content optimized for easy, fast and personalized delivery. Microsoft Active Channel partners are leading Internet content providers who are designing their channels to exploit the new functionality in Internet Explorer 4.0 such as Dynamic HTML and channel definition format (CDF)-based webcasting. With Dynamic HTML, channel publishers can create highly interactive Web pages whose colors, images, text styles, data an even 2-D positioning can change quickly based on user interaction. Active Channel technology also supports CDF-based webcasting, which enables customers to easily define and schedule automatic downloading of their favorite content. CDF-based webcasting offers customers a more convenient and personalized Web browsing experience.
