Morning Buzz

Super Bowl fever: Catch it. San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture has, and he celebrated his goal against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night by Kaepernicking, the act of kissing one's bicep in an act of celebration.

It's the signature celebration of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and has replaced Tebowing as the meme of the NFL postseason.

The Sharks won the game 3-2 in a shootout to remain unbeaten.

Tomas Vokoun earned his first shutout as a member of the Penguins on Thursday, blanking the New York Rangers in a 3-0 win. The Penguins have a Jekyll and Hyde thing going right now as they are 4-1 on the road, with wins over four playoff teams from last year, but 0-2 at home -- with both losses coming against non-playoff games. Phil Kessel's puck luck still hasn't changed as he was kept out of the net in the Maple Leafs' 3-2 win over Washington. It certainly wasn't for a lack of chances or effort as he finished with 15 shot attempts, six of which were on goal. He was robbed more than once by Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth. The goals are coming. He's long overdue. [Recap]

After it gave up seven goals to the Buffalo Sabres (and another five-point night for Thomas Vanek) Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien called his team's defense brain-dead.

"Defensively I don’t think I remember the last time we were this bad. The breakdowns and mistakes we made and the opportunities -- when you give Vanek those kinds of opportunities, he’s going to make the most of it. I don’t think we were extremely good on defense and that’s what cost us the game," said Julien.
"I didn’t expect this because it wasn’t our type of game. When you look at the way we played, the sloppiness of guys left by themselves around our net, the puck watching all over the place -- it was really disappointing; our guys defensively were just totally, totally out of it. We were told before the game to have our head on a swivel and that they really activate a lot in the offensive zone. Defensively, I guess you would say our guys [were] brain dead." [CSNNE]
