Top college football predictions for Week 0

One of the top college football picks the model is recommending for Saturday, Aug. 26: San Diego State (-2.5) cruises to a double-digit win at home against Ohio at 7 p.m. ET. The Aztecs return quarterback Jalen Mayden, who transformed the offense when he stepped in during the middle of last season. Mayden was once a quarterback recruit for Mississippi State before playing defensive back at San Diego State, responding with 2,030 passing yards and 12 touchdowns when he took over as the quarterback last year.

Mayden has a deep-threat target in Mekhi Shaw, and the Aztecs added wide receiver Raphael Williams from Western Carolina. San Diego State also has an elite defense that has not finished worse than No. 21 in the country in total defense in 10 years. Ohio will have trouble going on the road and pulling off an upset against an elite defense in Week 0 -- the model has the Aztecs covering the spread in more than 70% of simulations. See which other teams the model likes here.
