Total offense: Six teams in the top 20 -- Six Big 12 teams (more than half of the conference's membership) rank among the top 20 in the FBS in total offense after two games. Oklahoma State (659 yards per game) and West Virginia (655) are No. 1 and 2, respectively. Baylor (613) is not far behind at No. 4, and Texas Tech (12th, 545.5), Oklahoma (13th, 544.5) and TCU (18th, 531) are also among the nation's top 20. No. 29 Kansas State is the only other Big 12 school in the top 50.
Longhorns can flip the field -- One area Texas may have a sizable advantage on the rest of the Big 12 is when the time comes to punt the ball away. The Longhorns are No. 1 in the FBS ranks in net punting, averaging 49.75 net yards per punt. That is a combination of the work done by Duke transfer punter Alex King and the coverage unit, which has allowed only 12 return yards thus far. Only one other Big 12 team is within even eight yards per punt of Texas net punting, as Kansas is ninth nationally in the statistic, but still more than five yards per punt worse than the Longhorns.
Klein efficient through the air -- Kansas State QB Collin Klein is mostly known for his ability as a runner, but he has started the season doing just fine as a passer as well. Klein is 10th nationally in passing efficiency, with a rating of 173.68. He has completed 71.8 percent of his passes and thrown for 379 yards -- good enough for a very respectable 9.72 yards per attempt -- and three touchdowns. Among Big 12 quarterbacks, only Nick Florence of Baylor and Geno Smith of West Virginia (first and second in the country at 209.48 and 200.92, respectively) are above Klein in pass efficiency rating.
Stingy defense at TCU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma -- Three of those teams in the nation's top 20 in total offense also find themselves in the top 20 in total defense. TCU leads the FBS ranks in that category (70 yards per game allowed), with Texas Tech close behind at No. 4 (177). Oklahoma is 13th nationally in that statistic, having given up 245 yards per game in its first two outings. Only one other Big 12 school is even in the top 35, as Texas comes in at No. 27 (293).
Few pass rushers worth fearing -- There is not a single Big 12 player averaging more than 1.0 sacks per game through the first two weeks of the season. There are six players from the conference averaging 1.0 sacks per game (Kansas State's Adam Davis, Oklahoma's Jamarkus McFarland, TCU's Sam Carter, Devonte Fields and Stansly Maponga and West Virginia's Terence Garvin), but that barely places them in the top 70 players in the FBS in that statistic.
