Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Moran (wrist) has resumed taking swings in the batting cage, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
The activity marks a notable step forward for Moran, who hasn't played since fracturing his left wrist June 28. Moran will still need to take live batting practice, complete full defensive work and take part in a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list, so he appears unlikely to return before the end of July.
