Keller was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
Keller had been on the big-league roster since early July. He recorded a respectable 4.00 ERA in 10 appearances that month but struggled to a 9.26 ERA in 10 outings in August. The transaction clears a space for the Pirates to activate Saturday's starter, JT Brubaker (thumb).
