Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer and three RBI overall in a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday.
Big Papi provided a storybook opening night of his final regular-season series by taking Brett Cecil deep for a 373-foot shot to right that plated Mookie Betts and snapped a 3-3 tie in the seventh. Ortiz had a quiet final series at Yankee Stadium (0-for-10) so Friday's fireworks were a welcome sight. Despite the mini-slump in New York, Ortiz slashed an outstanding .333/.412/.644 over 87 September at-bats.
