Let me guess: Your DL spots are full.

Been that way for a while now. And none of them are players you're stashing "because you can." Each of them you drafted to play an instrumental role for your team, so you'd rather not give up on any right now.

But what if you have to? What if another one of your players goes down, as happened for Hisashi Iwakuma and Yasiel Puig owners this weekend? Your bench is full. You've exhausted all reasonable trade possibilities. What then?

It's a situation nobody wants to face, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

If it's not you, it'll be someone else. I count 28 players who probably should be stashed in standard mixed leagues. Assuming 12 teams and two DL spots per team, that's more than enough to go around.

So let's take a moment to prioritize, shall we? I've ranked those 28, as well as an additional seven for context, in terms of "stashability," which weighs two factors:

How good is the player? How close is he to returning?

If you're stashing a player who isn't on this list, you don't lose much by dropping him.

  1. Anthony Rendon, 2B/3B, Nationals (sprained knee)
  2. Carlos Gomez, OF, Brewers (strained hamstring)
  3. Yasiel Puig, OF, Dodgers (strained hamstring)
  4. Hunter Pence, OF, Giants (broken forearm)
  5. Greg Holland, RP, Royals (strained pectoral)
  6. Jonathan Lucroy, C, Brewers (broken toe)
  7. David Wright, 3B, Mets (strained hamstring)
  8. Kenley Jansen, RP, Dodgers (foot surgery)
  9. Christian Yelich, OF, Marlins (bulging disk)
  10. Alex Cobb, SP, Rays (forearm tendinitis)
  11. Hyun-Jin Ryu, SP, Dodgers (shoulder impingement)
  12. Hisashi Iwakuma, SP, Mariners (strained lat)
  13. Jose Fernandez, SP, Marlins (elbow surgery)
  14. Ben Zobrist, 2B/SS/OF, Athletics (knee surgery)
  15. Travis d'Arnaud, C, Mets (broken finger)
  16. Justin Verlander, SP, Tigers (strained triceps)
  17. Yan Gomes, C, Indians (sprained knee)
  18. Adam Ottavino, RP, Rockies (triceps inflammation)
  19. Sean Doolittle, RP, Athletics (torn rotator cuff)
  20. Alex Rios, OF, Royals (broken hand)
  21. Jake McGee, RP, Rays (elbow surgery)
  22. Mike Minor, SP, Braves (shoulder inflammation)
  23. Henderson Alvarez, SP, Marlins (shoulder inflammation)
  24. Matt Wieters, C, Orioles (elbow surgery)
  25. Patrick Corbin, SP, Diamondbacks (elbow surgery)
  26. Matt Moore, SP, Rays (elbow surgery)
  27. Matt Cain, SP, Giants (strained forearm)
  28. Derek Holland, SP, Rangers (strained shoulder)
  29. Jake Lamb, 3B, Diamondbacks (stress reaction in foot)
  30. Josh Hamilton, OF, Rangers (shoulder surgery)
  31. J.J. Hardy, SS, Orioles (strained shoulder)
  32. Bobby Parnell, RP, Mets (elbow surgery)
  33. Cliff Lee, SP, Phillies (strained forearm)
  34. Homer Bailey, SP, Reds (sprained elbow)
  35. Domonic Brown, OF, Phillies (Achilles tendinitis)

Some items of note:

• The top five are high-end players who are at most two weeks away from returning. You shouldn't drop them under any circumstances.

• The next six are either slightly less high-end or a few more weeks away. Still, they're all must-starts when they do return, so even if it requires a bench slot, you can find away to hold on to them.

• Fernandez is far and away the most stashable of last year's Tommy John class, but he, Corbin, Moore and Nova are on about the same timetable, looking at either a June or July return. Jarrod Parker, who has already begun a rehab assignment, might beat all of them back, but he missed the list due to his questionable upside.

• Format makes a difference about halfway down the list. Minor and Alvarez aren't as assured of quick returns as Gomes and Rios, but because fewer hitters are required in a standard Head-to-Head points leagues, they may be more stashable in that format.

• McGee's recovery is looking more assured than Doolittle's at this point, but with the way Brad Boxberger has performed in his absence, you can't feel completely confident McGee will regain the closer role when he returns.

• No guarantees with any of Cain, Holland, Hamilton, Lee or Bailey, but their upside makes them worth stashing if you have the space for it.

• Parnell would probably rank a good seven spots higher if not for Jeurys Familia's emergence. He's looking like a long shot to close for the Mets again.

Coco Crisp and Ivan Nova would be Nos. 36 and 37 on this list if I chose to extend it.
