Ramirez is on the 60-day injured list at Single-A Fredericksburg as he recovers from spring 2022 Tommy John surgery, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. Ramirez, who turns 22 in May, has not pitched in official games since 2021, but he is on track to be activated sometime this summer. He could sit in the mid-to-upper 90s with his fastball if he were pitching in short stints, so it's possible he eventually gets fast-tracked as a reliever, but the Nationals will likely keep developing him as a starter for now.... Nationals' Aldo Ramirez: Won't pitch in 2022
Ramirez (elbow) was placed on the full-season injured list June 5 for the Nationals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate and isn't expected to pitch again until 2023. Ramirez was sidelined with right elbow tendinitis for much of the second half of the 2021 campaign and experienced recurring soreness in the elbow during spring training, prompting the Nationals to delay assigning him to an affiliate. He was expected to begin pitching in early June when the FCL season got underway, but Ramirez's elbow injury was apparently more serious than anticipated. It's unclear if Ramirez required surgery to address the injury, but his lack of game action in 2022 is a negative development for his outlook in any case.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Aldo Ramirez: Out with sore elbow
Ramirez is taking it slow after dealing with elbow soreness this spring, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. Shipped to Washington in last year's deadline deal that sent Kyle Schwarber to Boston, Ramirez made eight starts last year at the Low-A level, logging a 2.03 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB in 31 innings. It's unclear when he'll be able to take the field this season.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Aldo Ramirez: Pitching again in FCL
Ramirez (elbow) has made two appearances for the Nationals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate since being activated from the 7-day injured list Monday, working three innings between those outings while giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks. Ramirez had been pitching for Low-A Salem in the Red Sox's system before he was dealt to Washington in late July in the Kyle Schwarber trade. Just days prior to the trade, Ramirez developed right elbow tendinitis, which delayed him from making his debut for his new organization for nearly a month. The Nationals aren't labeling Ramirez's stint in the FCL as a rehab assignment, so he'll likely continue to make regular starts at the rookie-ball level before potentially earning a promotion to Low-A Fredericksburg at some point in September.... Nationals' Aldo Ramirez: Bound for DC
Ramirez (elbow) will be traded from the Red Sox to the Nationals in exchange for Kyle Schwarber (hamstring) on Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Ramirez was pitching extremely well with Low-A Salem this season before being shut down with tendinitis in his elbow. He had maintained a 2.03 ERA and a 1.13 WHP with 32 strikeouts across 31 innings prior to hitting the injured list. He'll join an impressive group of young arms in the Nationals organization, though it's unclear when he'll be able to take the mound again.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Aldo Ramirez: Shut down with elbow injury
Low-A Salem placed Ramirez on the 7-day injured list Monday with right elbow tendinitis, Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects.com reports. The 20-year-old becomes the latest in a growing list of high-end pitching prospects in the Red Sox organization to hit the shelf with an arm injury. Though Boston is classifying Ramirez's injury as tendinitis rather than something more concerning such as elbow tightness or an elbow strain, he'll still likely end up spending more than the minimum seven days on the IL....
