Guardians' Andres Melendez: Dies at age 20
Melendez died Thursday in Miami, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. He was 20 years old.
The Guardians announced his death late Thursday but could not give further information until talking to his family. Melendez appeared in 73 games for Low-A Lynchburg last season hitting .246 with eight homers. "Andres is remembered by his teammates and friends as a positive, respectful, and thoughtful young man with a beautiful smile who had a profound impact on others. He will be greatly missed," the Guardians said in a statement.
