Triolo went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Tuesday against the Brewers. Even with Nick Gonzales in the majors, Triolo has continued to serve as an everyday player for the Pirates while playing third base in the absence of Ke'Bryan Hayes (back). Triolo's playing time is likely to be in jeopardy once Hayes can return, however, as he has only two hits across his last 27 at-bats and has just a .521 OPS in 157 plate appearances for the season.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Getting rest day
Triolo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. Triolo will take a seat for the series finale after he started in each of the past 11 games while getting on base at a .333 clip over that stretch. Alika Williams will step in at second base while Triolo rests Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Out of lineup Monday
Triolo isn't included in the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers. Triolo's streak of seven consecutive starts will come to an end Monday with Alika Williams getting the nod at the keystone. The time off could prove beneficial for Triolo, who has gone 2-for-19 at the dish over his last six games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Swipes second bag
Triolo went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Phillies. Triolo has settled into a near-everyday role at second base while hitting primarily seventh or eighth in the lineup. He has at least one hit in 11 of his 14 starts, with the result being a .268 average across 62 plate appearances. The rest of Triolo's line is fairly empty, however, as he's tallied only two extra-base hits -- including one home run -- and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Gets Saturday off
Triolo isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. Triolo will get a day to rest after going 3-for-7 with an RBI and a run scored through the first two games of the series. Alika Williams will instead get the nod at the keystone, batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Batting leadoff Tuesday
Triolo will start at second base and bat leadoff Tuesday versus the Tigers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Triolo hadn't previously batted higher than sixth this season, but he's perched atop the batting order in this one against righty Casey Mize while Oneil Cruz gets a breather. The 26-year-old is hitting .275/.356/.375 in his first 10 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Not in Monday's lineup
Triolo is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Nationals. He started each of the Pirates' first four games at second base but will yield to Alika Williams in this one. Triolo went 5-for-17 with two RBI and a stolen base in Pittsburgh's four-game sweep of the Marlins.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: On base four times
Triolo went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Marlins. Triolo won the second base job out of spring training and has started all four of Pittsburgh's games to this point. He has two multi-hit efforts in that span while also drawing three walks. Triolo also notched his first stolen base of the campaign after swiping 16 total bags between Triple-A Indianapolis and the majors in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Wins second base job
Triolo is expected to be Pittsburgh's regular second baseman after Liover Peguero was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Triolo was initially projected for a utility role this season, but he's maintained a .436 wOBA across 39 plate appearances this spring. His underlying 30.8 percent strikeout rate and .500 BABIP make it clear that Triolo won't enjoy the same success over a larger sample, but he did enough to beat out Peguero for the second base job to begin the regular season.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Projected for utility role
Triolo is likely to get regular at-bats while playing multiple positions this season, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports. Triolo appeared in 54 games for the Pirates in 2023 and hit .298 across 209 plate appearances. There's significant reason to doubt that performance carries forward, as he posted a .440 BABIP to go along with a 30.1 percent strikeout rate. However, he's an above-average defender at first base, second base and third base, giving him multiple paths to playing time even if he doesn't start regularly at a single position.... See More ... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Making case for 2024 role
Triolo went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Phillies. Triolo has settled into a regular utility role around the infield. Since Sept. 9, he's hit .375 (18-for-48) with two home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored, and he's recorded seven multi-hit performances across 14 starts. The Pirates will have a number of younger infielders vying for playing time to begin 2024, and Triolo may have added his name to the mix with the way he's wrapping up the current campaign.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Knocks second homer
Triolo went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs. Triolo has gone 6-for-23 (.261) over eight games since he was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sept. 6. This was his first game with an RBI in that span. The infielder is slashing .271/.350/.340 with two homers, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored and four stolen bases through 163 plate appearances this season. He doesn't have an everyday role, but he can provide cover around the infield for the Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Headed for bench role
Triolo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game agains the Tigers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) returned from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and will rejoin the starting lineup Wednesday, so Triolo's run as the Pirates' everyday third baseman appears to be over. While starting all but one of the Pirates' last 28 games, Triolo hit a respectable .268 but otherwise offered little in the way of fantasy production (zero home runs, zero stolen bases, 13 runs and nine RBI).... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Could lose out on playing time
Triolo is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers. Triolo had started eight consecutive games since being promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis. He's hit fairly well in the small sample by maintaining a .286 batting average, though he's also struck out 11 times in 32 plate appearances. He'll lose his spot at third base due to the return of Ke'Bryan Hayes and may have to settle for splitting time in the middle infield with Nick Gonzales, Rodolfo Castro and Tucupita Marcano.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Another path to potential at-bats
Triolo went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks Monday against the Dodgers. Triolo has enjoyed an everyday role at third base since being promoted to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. While he has only a limited sample since, he's maintained a 13 percent walk rate -- a mark in line with his minor-league track record -- and also has one extra-base hit. Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) appears to be nearing a return, but the absence of Ji Hwan Bae (ankle) could cause the Pirates to shuffle their infield. In that scenario, Nick Gonzales could shift primarily to second base and leave Triolo to split time with Tucupita Marcano at shortstop. It's also possible that Pittsburgh opts to demote Triolo to make room on the roster for Hayes' activation.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Promoted to majors
Pittsburgh recalled Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Ke'Bryan Hayes will be sidelined for at least the next seven days because of a lower-back issue, giving Triolo an opportunity to impress at third base. The 25-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and had registered a .309/.412/.463 batting line with one home run and eight stolen bases through 41 games this season in the minors.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Healthy for spring training
Triolo (knee) played four innings at first base and went 0-for-1 with a walk Saturday in the Pirates' 9-7 loss to the Blue Jays in the Grapefruit League opener. Triolo, who was added to the Pirates' 40-man roster over the offseason, missed the final few weeks of Double-A Altoona's 2022 campaign while recovering from a hyperextended left knee. The 25-year-old is seemingly healthy again and could get the chance to make his MLB debut at some point in 2023 for the rebuilding Pirates, but he's likely to head to Triple-A Indianapolis at least for the start of the season. Per Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic, Triolo has played third base for most of his minor-league career but is expected to get exposure to the other corner-infield spot as well as shortstop and the outfield this spring.... Pirates' Jared Triolo: Joins 40-man roster
Triolo (knee) was added to Pittsburgh's 40-man roster Tuesday. Triolo spent the final month of 2022 on the injured list at Double-A Altoona with a hyperextended knee, but he still had a productive campaign with a .285/.378/.424 slash line and 24 steals in 112 games. The 24-year-old should move up to Triple-A Indianapolis at some point in 2023.... See More ... See Less
