  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Outrighted to Triple-A

Moroff (shoulder) was outrighted to Triple-A Memphis by the Cardinals on Friday. Moroff missed the last four months of the season after undergoing surgery on his dislocated left shoulder, and the Cardinals have now removed him from the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old appeared in only 13 games between the majors and Triple-A in 2021 and should be healthy in time for spring training.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Transferred to 60-day IL

Moroff (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday. Moroff's move to the 60-day IL is simply procedural since he's slated to miss the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his dislocated shoulder in early June. The 28-year-old is expected to have a seven-month recovery timetable, so he could be back at full strength by the start of spring training in 2022.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Season-ending surgery ordered up

Moroff is slated to undergo season-ending surgery on his dislocated left shoulder Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Moroff is expected to require seven months to make a full recovery from the procedure, so he should be back to full strength ahead of spring training in 2022. The 28-year-old utility man went 1-for-16 over six games with the Cardinals before being shut down with the injury.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Could require surgery

Moroff (shoulder) hasn't yet decided whether he'll have surgery to address his injury, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Moroff was diagnosed with a left shoulder subluxation and placed on the 10-day injured list May 29. Even if he doesn't opt for surgery, the infielder will likely require at least 4-to-6 weeks to recover, so he should be sidelined until the end of June at minimum.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Lands on injured list

Moroff was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation Saturday. Moroff hadn't appeared in either of the last two games, and he's apparently dealing with a shoulder injury that will force him to miss time. Jose Rondon's contract was selected as part of a shuffle, and he should take on a depth role while Moroff is unavailable.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Contract selected by Cardinals

Moroff's contract was selected by the Cardinals on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Moroff gives the team an additional infield option with Paul DeJong (rib) landing on the injured list. He's unlikely to play a significant role, as he owns a .183/.277/.319 slash line in 244 career major-league plate appearances. Jordan Hicks (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Drops down to MiLB camp

The Cardinals reassigned Moroff to their minor-league camp Sunday. Moroff was one of 10 players sent to the minors or placed on the injured list as the Cardinals attempt to pare down their active roster to 26 men ahead of Opening Day. The 27-year-old infielder's most recent big-league action came in 2019 for Cleveland, with whom he appeared in 20 games.

  • Cardinals' Max Moroff: Latches on with Cards

Moroff signed a minor-league deal with the Cardinals on Tuesday that includes an invitation to big-league camp, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The 27-year-old joined the Mets on a minor-league deal for 2020, but he remained at the alternate training site all season. Moroff has appeared in 104 games since making his major-league debut in 2016 and has a career .183/.277/.319 slash line in 244 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Max Moroff: Headed to summer camp

Moroff has been added to the Mets' 60-man player pool, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The former Pittsburgh and Cleveland player signed a minor-league deal with the Mets in the offseason. Moroff has a weak .183/.277/.319 slash line through 244 career plate appearances in the majors, but his defensive versatility could prove useful if New York's infield depth gets tested.

  • Mets' Max Moroff: Inks minor-league deal with Mets

Moroff signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training. Moroff saw limited playing time in 2019 as he dealt with a strained left scapula, but he saw major-league action for the fourth consecutive year. The 26-year-old struck out 16 times in 35 plate appearances in the majors. He wasn't much better in the minors, recording a .213/.375/.361 slash line with four home runs and eight RBI over 34 games. Moroff faces an uphill battle for time in the majors after he struggled last season, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him appear in some major-league games if injuries arise.

  • Indians' Max Moroff: Out with strained scapula

Moroff landed on the minor-league injured list at Triple-A Columbus with a strained left scapula Saturday. • Indians' Max Moroff: Remains in organization

Moroff cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Columbus, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. It's not particularly surprising that Moroff passed through waivers unclaimed, as he owns a career .183/.277/.319 slash line in 104 major-league games. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Indians moving forward.

  • Indians' Max Moroff: Pops first homer

Moroff went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with Atlanta. The Cleveland infield is healthy again with Jason Kipnis and now Francisco Lindor back in action, so Moroff -- who only had two hits and zero homers on the season coming into Saturday -- will be relegated to a bench role at best moving forward. Even in deep AL-only formats, there's little reason to keep him in an active lineup spot.

  • Indians' Max Moroff: Picking up fifth start

Moroff will start at second base and will bat eighth Wednesday against the Tigers. Moroff will draw his fifth start of the season as the occupant of the short side of a platoon at second base with the lefty-hitting Brad Miller. The lack of steady at-bats dampens Moroff's fantasy prospects enough as it is, but he hasn't helped his cause by getting off to a 2-for-18 start to the season while striking out in half of his plate appearances.

  • Indians' Max Moroff: Expected to win roster spot

Moroff is in line to break camp with the Indians, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The Indians announced Friday that Francisco Lindor (calf) and Jason Kipnis (calf) won't be ready for Opening Day, leaving Moroff and Eric Stamets (hip) to man the middle of the infield for the time being, barring a free agent signing. The 25-year-old Moroff, who owns a career .193/.293/.331 slash line across parts of three big-league seasons (84 games), figures to return to a utility role or head down to Triple-A once Lindor and Kipnis are healthy.

The Pirates traded Moroff and Jordan Luplow to the Indians on Wednesday in exchange for Erik Gonzalez, Tahnaj Thomas and Dante Mendoza. Moroff spent most of the 2018 campaign at Triple-A Indianapolis, hitting .223/.334/.393 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 74 games. He had a couple stints with the Pirates' big-league club but failed to cement any sort of significant role with the team, instead serving as organizational depth around the infield. Expect to see the 25-year-old utilized in the same manner with Cleveland in 2019.

The third-inning blast was the only run allowed by Brewers starter Brent Suter. Moroff is hitting .185/.267/.370 in 60 plate appearances with the Bucs, however, and henwill keep a role as a mere fill-in/utility player as long as everyone's healthy.

Moroff will make his seventh start of the season Wednesday, batting eighth while playing second base against the Dodgers. He could see more time in the second half of the season if Pittsburgh decides to trade the likes of Jordy Mercer and Josh Harrison.

Moroff will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to Friday's game, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. Moroff has spent the past six weeks at the Triple-A level after struggling at the beginning of the 2018 season with the Pirates. During his last 20 games for Indianapolis, he's slashed .314/.398/.586 with four home runs and 17 RBI. Expect him to be utilized as a reserve infielder in a similar capacity to Sean Rodriguez, who was placed on the 10-day DL due to a right quadriceps strain Wednesday.
