Goodson is working with the first-team defense in nickel and base situations at OTAs, ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan reports.

Selected in the fourth round (No. 109 overall) last year, Goodson only logged 14 defensive snaps as a rookie while stuck behind Kelvin Sheppard, who has yet to sign with a team this offseason. Sheppard's departure was expected to give Goodson the inside track to the starting middle linebacker job, but it's a bit surprising to hear that the second-year player is getting regular first-team work with the nickel defense, as outside 'backers Keenan Robinson and Jonathan Casillas got most of the nickel snaps last year. Should he displace Robinson or Casillas, in addition to winning the starting job in the middle, Goodson would have a clear path to IDP utility as a three-down inside linebacker.
