Dowling was recalled from AHL Utica on Sunday.
Colin Miller (lower body) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. The 33-year-old Dowling will serve as additional depth at center with Nico Hischier (upper body) ruled out. Dowling played 27 games with Dallas last season, tallying a goal and four assists.
