Dowling was recalled from AHL Utica on Thursday.
The Devils were down to 12 healthy forwards as Michael McLeod (personal) is not with the team at this time. Dowling could see action Thursday versus Carolina as a fourth-line winger, but he's more likely to be New Jersey's extra forward. Dowling has eight goals and 19 points in 30 AHL games this year.
