Viel was put on waivers by Winnipeg on Wednesday with the intent of sending him to AHL Manitoba if he clears.
Viel recorded 15 goals, 31 points and 150 PIM in 60 AHL contests with the Barracuda in 2022-23. The 26-year-old also has three goals, five points and 139 PIM in 49 career NHL appearances.
