Viel was brought up from AHL Manitoba on Sunday under emergency conditions.
In a corresponding move, David Gustafsson (lower body) was placed on injured reserve. Viel has four goals, nine points and 70 PIM in 24 AHL contests this season. He may get a chance to make his Winnipeg debut Sunday against the Wild.
