Villalta was assigned to AHL Ontario on Saturday, Lisa Dillman of The Athletic reports.
Villalta is being sent back down to the minors one day after he was called up. The 21-year-old has played eight games with the AHL affiliate this season, registering an .870 save percentage and a 3.66 GAA.
