  • Angels' Jose Marte: Placed on 60-day IL

The Angels placed Marte (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Friday. Marte has been shut down from throwing for at least another three weeks while he recovers from a right elbow stress reaction. His move to the 60-day IL opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Jake Lamb. Assuming he incurs no further setbacks in his recovery from the injury, Marte could be ready to join the Los Angeles bullpen at the start of June.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Shut down at least four weeks

The Angels announced Monday that Marte was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow and will be shut down for at least four weeks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Marte had yet to make his Cactus League debut due to what manager Phil Nevin and Angels director of sports medicine Mike Frostad termed as "soreness," but the right-handed reliever is evidently dealing with a more significant issue than the team initially led on. Given that he won't be able to resume throwing until late April or early May, Marte will essentially have to complete his own version of spring training before being ready to contribute out of the Angels bullpen. Bollinger suggests that Marte is a likely candidate to move to the 60-day injured list if the Angels need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for another player.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: To throw bullpen Sunday

Marte (general soreness) is scheduled for another bullpen session Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. If that workout goes well, the next step could be his Cactus League debut. Marte, 26, has been brought along slowly this spring due to general soreness. He has also surrendered 14 runs -- 13 earned -- in 15 career major-league innings and will probably be ticketed for Triple-A Salt Lake out of camp.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Working through soreness

Angels manager Phil Nevin said that Marte has been dealing with some soreness but will toss a bullpen session Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Nevin didn't go into detail about the nature of Marte's injury, but the unspecified soreness explains why the 26-year-old right-handed reliever has yet to make his Cactus League debut. Marte looks as though he'll be able to make an appearance before the end of the spring, but he'll likely be on the outside looking in for a spot in the Angels' Opening Day bullpen.

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. • Angels' Jose Marte: Sent to Triple-A

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake after Wednesday's game. Marte made his major-league debut with the Angels on Aug. 20, but he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list just two days later. He was activated Sept. 17 and made three appearances since, allowing four earned runs -- all of which came in one outing -- across two innings of work.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Takes loss in return

Marte (0-1) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Athletics after allowing an unearned run while walking two across 0.2 innings. Marte, who had been out nearly a month for undisclosed reasons, entered the game with one out in the sixth inning but was unable to get the job done due to some command issues. Aside from walking two of the four batters he faced, he only tossed six of his 18 pitches for strikes. Despite this shaky outing, Marte should remain in the Angels' bullpen for the remainder of the campaign.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Nearing return

Marte (undisclosed) tossed a bullpen session in San Diego on Wednesday and could be activated in the coming days, per MLB.com. The right-hander has been on the injured list since Aug. 22, and though a reason was never announced, it's likely that he has been navigating COVID-19 protocols. While he's pitched in only one game for the Angels this season, Marte could be given a spot in the bullpen upon his return.

  • Angels' Jose Marte: Back with club

Marte (COVID-19 protocols) rejoined the Angels in Anaheim on Friday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Both Marte and Reid Detmers (COVID-19) returned to the club Friday, though manager Joe Maddon indicated that he isn't sure how long it will take for either player to be ready for activation, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. Marte has pitched in only one game for the big club this season, but he could retain his bullpen spot upon his return if the organization decides it wants to evaluate him down the stretch.
