Adam gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in the ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 10-8 win over the Mets. The right-hander has collected saves in back-to-back appearances, but he's looked a bit shaky both times. Adam served up a solo shot to Brett Baty on Friday before giving up a two-out double to Brandon Nimmo that brought the tying run to the plate. Adam's 1.80 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB through 15 innings on the season remain impressive, but with Pete Fairbanks (forearm) set to begin a rehab assignment next week, Adam should return to setup duties before long.... Rays' Jason Adam: Escapes with save
Adam allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Monday. He struck out two and earned a save over the Brewers. Adam also hit a batter and faced a bases-loaded situation with two outs but still narrowly finished off the 1-0 win. It was his first save of the year after blowing his only other chance April 5 against the Rockies. Adam now owns a 1.29 ERA with a 12:4 K:BB and seven holds through 14 innings.... See More ... Rays' Jason Adam: Works two frames for hold
Adam struck out two across two scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner to earn a hold Wednesday against the Tigers. Adam was the presumed closer with Pete Fairbanks (arm) sidelined, but he instead was used in the highest-leverage spot. He entered the game in the seventh inning to face the top of the Tigers' order and protect a two-run lead. Adam was very effective and picked up his seventh hold of the campaign, but Garrett Cleavinger was ultimately the reliever to pick up the save.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Struggles with command
Adam allowed one unearned run on a walk while also hitting a batter across one inning Tuesday against the Angels. Adam entered the game in the 11th inning with the game knotted at four. He allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base and ultimately allowed a run to score on a sacrifice fly later in the inning. Though it was a shaky appearance, Adam has had a strong start to the season as Tampa Bay's primary setup man, tallying six holds in his first 10 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Lands on IL
The Rays placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain. Adam underwent medical imaging on his left oblique after being pulled from his appearance Friday against Toronto, and he'll now officially be held out for the remainder of the regular season. Adam is hopeful he can return during the Rays' postseason run, per Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, but Chris Devenski will join Tampa Bay's bullpen from Triple-A in the meantime.... See More ... Rays' Jason Adam: Undergoing scans on oblique
Adam was sent for imaging scans on his left oblique after departing Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. This is ominous news given that Adam just returned Thursday from a three-week injured list stint for a left oblique strain. He said the discomfort is in a different area this time around but acknowledged that it feels more severe. The 32-year-old high-leverage reliever is likely headed back to the IL and could be done for the remainder of 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Makes return from IL
Adam (oblique) was activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. Adam spent three weeks on the IL with a left oblique strain but is ready to rejoin the Rays' bullpen after throwing off a mound without issue in recent days. He has a 2.57 ERA in 55 appearances and will return to a high-leverage relief role.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Hoping to return soon
Adam (oblique) is hoping to return from the injured list following the team's current road trip, MLB.com reports. Adam has been sidelined since Aug. 29 and is eligible to return as soon as Sept. 14. While he may not be ready to be activated when first eligible, the team is hoping to get him back in time for a pivotal intra-division series with the Orioles beginning on the 19th. While the target date has been set, it's unclear what steps Adam has taken toward a potential return.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Lands on injured list
The Rays placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a left oblique strain. With Adam set to miss at least two weeks, Pete Fairbanks should now have a firm hold of the Rays' closer job for the near future. Right-hander Taj Bradley was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move and is set to start Sunday against Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Locks down save No. 12
Adam didn't allow a baserunner during the ninth inning to pick up his 12th save of the year in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Yankees. He did not record a strikeout. Adam picked up his first save since June 14th after sending down the Yankees in order on 15 pitches. The right-hander still appears to be the next man up in the pecking order for saves should Pete Fairbanks be unavailable, like he was Sunday. Adam has picked up two wins, a save and a hold in 10 appearances in August while registering a 3.27 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB in 11 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Blows save against Mets
Adam blew a save against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing three runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two batters over one inning. Adam got the call from the bullpen with the Rays up by three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but he couldn't get the job done. The right-hander put the first two batters he faced on base via a walk and hit-by-pitch, then retired the next two hitters before serving up a game-tying three-run homer to Francisco Alvarez. It was the second blown save over the past three outings for Adam, whose ERA shot up from 1.59 to 3.00 as a result of Wednesday's collapse. Co-closer Pete Fairbanks also blew a save with a poor appearance Wednesday, and the pair will likely continue sharing fireman duties moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Notches fifth save
Adam picked up the save Sunday with a clean ninth inning, sealing an 8-7 win over the Yankees. Adam blew his first save in his last outing against the Yankees on Friday but bounced back Sunday, setting down New York 1-2-3 to cap Tampa Bay's one-run victory. The 31-year-old Adam has been excellent this season, allowing just one earned run in his last 9.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 1.59 with a 1.00 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 17 innings this season. Pete Fairbanks (forearm) is expected to return on Tuesday for the Rays, though Adam has done his part to maintain a share of the ninth-inning job.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Strikes out side in ninth
Adam picked up the save during Monday's 3-0 win over the Orioles, striking out the side over a scoreless ninth inning in which he allowed one hit and didn't walk a batter. With Pete Fairbanks (forearm) on the injured list, Adam continues to operate as the Rays' go-to closer. He's recorded four saves over his past five outings and holds a 10:1 K:BB during that stretch. Fairbanks has started to play catch again and is eligible to return May 16.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Secures third save
Adam picked up the save during Friday's 5-4 win over the Yankees, tossing a scoreless ninth in which he allowed one hit and zero walks while striking out one. With Pete Fairbanks (forearm) on the 15-injured list, Adam has drawn three saves chances over the past week and was able to secure the win in each of those games. The right-hander is now 3-for-4 in save opportunities and currently sports a 1.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB across 14 outings (13.1 innings). As long as Fairbanks is sidelined, Adam will presumably be Tampa Bay's go-to closer.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Escapes ninth-inning scare
Adam picked up the save Thursday against Pittsburgh. He allowed two runs (none earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out three during the ninth inning. Adam nearly blew his second save of the season Thursday, with Tucupita Marcano's hit-by-pitch with one out starting the trouble. Bryan Reynolds then reached via an error, and both runners came around to score on a two-out double by Carlos Santana. However, Adam managed to stave off the Pirates' comeback efforts, striking out Connor Joe to end the game. The right-hander has a 1.46 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 12.1 innings this season, and he should continue to receive closer's work with Pete Fairbanks (finger) on the 15-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Coughs up lead
Adam (2-3) alowed two earmed runs on two hits while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Monday against the Blue Jays. Adam entered the game in a setup role with a one-run lead in the eighth inning. However, he allowed a leadoff single and then served up a two-run home run to Bo Bichette to blow the advantage. Adam has an excellent 1.54 ERA with a 0.69 WHIP with a 71:14 K:BB accross 58.1 innings while serving as a part-time closer for the season, though he's now given up four earned runs across his last 7.2 frames.... Rays' Jason Adam: Possible waiver wire pickups
The Rays are notorious for closer fakeouts, but it feels like Adam's rise to the role has been a long time coming given his 1.13 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 on the year. The Rays have mostly mixed and matched since losing Andrew Kittredge to Tommy John surgery and will always do so more than the average club, but as long as Adam is getting at least a 50 percent share, he'll be a solid play in Fantasy. His past three appearances, all on consecutive days, saw him work the ninth inning, twice for the save and once with a four-run lead. He has three of the Rays' four saves in August.... See More ... Rays' Jason Adam: Picks up seventh save
Adam earned the save Tuesday, striking out two in 1.1 innings in a 3-1 victory over the Yankees. Adam entered the game in the eighth inning with two outs and one on to face Aaron Judge and got the slugger to ground out. He then worked a perfect ninth, including fanning Anthony Rizzo and Jose Trevino. Adam has been called upon to finish out the last three ballgames for the Rays, saving Sunday's contest against Baltimore and finishing Monday's 4-0 victory over New York. His seven saves are tied for the team lead with Colin Poche and Brooks Raley.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Earns sixth save
Adam picked up the save Sunday against Baltimore, striking out the only two batters he faced in a 4-1 victory. Adam came on in the ninth inning with one out and one on and needed only eight pitches to strike out both Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman. It was his sixth save this season and second this month. The 31-year-old has not allowed a run in his last eight outings, giving up one hit and a walk while striking out eight in 8.1 innings in that span. He'll continue to get occasional save chances, but those opportunities will likely remain unpredictable as the Rays continue to employ a closer committee.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Jason Adam: Nails down fifth save
Adam struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old right-hander continues to be a key member of the Rays' late-inning committee. Adam has picked up three saves and five holds in 13 appearances since the beginning of July while being scored upon only once in that stretch, posting a 0.75 ERA, 0.42 WHIP and 18:0 K:BB over his last 12 innings....
