Carmelo Anthony doesn't want to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers receive their championship rings on Tuesday. In an interview with Esquire's Jack Holmes, the New York Knicks star said he doesn't care for the tradition of having the ring ceremony right before tipoff at the defending champs' home opener:

Before the season opener in Cleveland, the Cavs will be presented with their championship rings. What do you anticipate feeling while you're watching that?

Well my approach will be the same. Just knowing what's at stake there--knowing that they're getting their rings. I wish the NBA would let them get their rings the day before, you know what I'm saying? Like I don't know who came up with that rule that you get your rings at the first game.

The easy joke here is that of course Anthony would say that -- he has never won an NBA ring. If he were on the other side, he probably wouldn't care about the players on the opposing team that night.

Anthony's idea, however, isn't terrible. Why shouldn't the champions hold a rally before the start of the regular season where they give away the rings? It would be like a second championship parade. Fans would love it.

The good news for Anthony: He won't actually have to see the Cavs get their rings. Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters on Tuesday that the team will be in the locker room while all the celebrating is going on, via Newsday's Al Iannazzone.
