Powell signed a two-way contract with the Knicks on Friday.
Powell was originally thought to be signing a two-way deal with the Bucks in March, but that fell through. In joining the Knicks, Powell will provide backcourt depth. The Seton Hall product went undrafted in 2020.
Powell is expected to sign a two-way contract with the Bucks, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Powell has played 13 games with the G League's Westchester Knicks this season. In 28.1 minutes per game, he's averaged 17.8 points -- including 2.8 made threes on 44.6 percent long-range shooting -- 3.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals. He'll likely serve as a depth option for the Bucks.
Powell registered 20 points (6-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists across 20 minutes in Thursday's 116-95 win over G League Salt Lake City.
Powell came off the bench and was quite efficient with his time, finishing second on the team in scoring in the process. The 23-year-old out of Seton Hall has already earned a few starts this season, and performances like this bolster his argument for more opportunities. Through 10 contests, he's averaged 17.1 points while connecting on 43.2 percent of his field goals.
Powell posted 31 points (10-14 FG, 5-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six assists and a rebound across 38 minutes in Monday's 135-117 loss to G League Rio Grande.
Powell led the team in scoring with perfect performances from beyond the arc and at the charity line. The undrafted rookie has hit 50.8 percent of his field goals and 58.3 percent of three-pointers thus far, averaging 23.3 points, 6.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Powell recorded 22 points (7-15 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 2-3 FT), nine assists and three rebounds in Wednesday's 118-106 win against G League Greensboro on Thursday.
Powell was the first man off the bench, and he ended up playing 38 minutes because Jared Harper exited early with an ankle injury, according to freelance basketball journalist Adam Zagoria. Depending on Harper's recovery, Powell could be in line for an increased workload going forward, especially after leading G League Westchester in points Thursday.
Powell was waived by the Knicks on Saturday.
The 23-year-old joined New York in November after going undrafted, but he won't begin the season on the NBA roster. Powell is a likely bet to end up at the Knicks' G League affiliate in Westchester.
