There was this silly little rumor that emerged late last week about the Buccaneers possibly giving LeGarrette Blount a first-round tender. Because, you know, who doesn't want to overpay a plodding, backup running back who rushed for 151 yards in 2012?
The answer to that question is no one does, of course. Which is why the Bucs locked Blount down on a cheaper deal, Joel Corry reported at the National Football Post.
The deal is a one-year, $1.75 million contract that features a $350,000 reporting bonus and a $150,000 workout bonus.
The contract tells you a lot about Blount's status: The Bucs didn't feel the need to tender him at the first- or second-round level, which would've given them some protection in the form of draft picks in return should someone else sign Blount to an offer sheet.
They obviously (and accurately) didn't think anyone was going to try to yank Blount away from them. That's not surprising given how much he played in 2012, with rookie Doug Martin emerging as a viable feature back.
