In case you missed the headline, let us repeat it here: Chris Kreider is very, very fast. He showed yet another example of his impeccable skating when he scored to give the New York Rangers a 3-1 lead over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.
With the Rangers transitioning out of their zone, Kreider turned on the jets. Alexei Emelin, who was the defenseman nearest Kreider, looked helpless as the 23-year-old had a good six or seven steps on him.
The best angle for this play came from the French-speaking broadcast on RDS, which shows Kreider from the wide angle.
Look how fast he covers that ground. All he did was make himself available for the pass, which came from Rick Nash, and he buried his chance with no one close to him. That had to be a helpless feeling for Emelin there. He didn’t stand a chance.
Still technically a rookie though this is Kreider's third postseason with the Rangers, the kid has a bright future. That goal was just his second of this postseason after he missed the first 10 games of the playoffs with injury.
