The coaches of the Mountain West have spoken, and Boise State , the co-champions of the league along with San Diego State, has the league's best player and best coach for the 2014-15 season.
On Tuesday the league announced that Boise State guard Derrick Marks was named the MW Player of the Year and Leon Rice earned MW Coach of the Year honors after the Broncos captured their first regular season title since joining the league. Marks averaged 21.3 points per game and ranked second in the league in shooting percentage (.498) while leading Boise State to a program-record 14 conference wins.
Marks was joined on the All-MW first team by Colorado State big man J.J. Avila and Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr., along with Fresno State guard Marvelle Harris and San Diego State's JJ O'Brien. Harris, O'Brien and Nance all made the All-Defensive team, with San Diego State's Skylar Spencer and Nance sharing the Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Boise State forward James Webb III was named the Newcomer of the Year by the league's coaches while UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn was named the Freshman of the Year. Colorado State guard John Gillon took home Sixth Man of the Year honors after averaging 8.1 points per game in 22.9 minutes per game off the bench for the Rams.
