MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Terrence Joyner scored 17 points and Mississippi Valley State defeated Alabama State 67-60 on Saturday night.
The Delta Devils (3-11, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed 41-39 with 11:48 remaining, before going on a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. Blake Ralling's jumper put the Delta Devils up 48-43 with 8:59 to play.
Falando Jones, the SWAC Player of the Week, added 12 points and Brent Arrington 10 for MVSU.
The Delta Devils shot 48.1 percent (26 of 54), including 7 of 14 from 3-point range.
Jones scored 10 points in the first half for MVSU, which trailed 34-31 at the break.
Kenderek Washington led the Hornets (5-10, 2-1) with 17 points. Ivory White added 13 points and Jeffery Middlebrooks 10 for Alabama State, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Hornets shot just 33.3 percent from the field (19 of 57).
