Barnes was optioned to Triple-A San Antonio on Monday.
Barnes has a poor 6.86 ERA in 19.2 innings for the Brewers this season. He was sent down to make room for Jhoulys Chacin (back), who returns from the injured list to start Monday against the Padres.
