Alvarez will not undergo surgery on his left elbow for the time being,Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Alvarez was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday, which means he will be sidelined until at least early September. His elbow inflammation has not improved with treatment, but the Giants are still hoping he will be able to avoid surgery.
