The Red Sox outrighted Cordero to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

The toolsy outfielder was designated for assignment Thursday and cleared waivers over the weekend, allowing Boston to retain his rights. Unless he elects free agency or is granted his release later in the offseason, Cordero will join the Red Sox for spring training and compete for a bench role as a non-roster invitee. The 27-year-old mashed at Worcester (.931 OPS) this season, but he couldn't translate that success to the big-league level, delivering a .237/.260/.497 slash line while striking out 51 times in 136 plate appearances (37.5 percent).
