  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Marlins outrighted Emanuel to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The southpaw is no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. Emanuel has allowed eight runs (seven earned) over six relief innings with the Marlins this season.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: DFA'd by Miami

The Marlins designated Emanuel for assignment on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 31-year-old had his contract selected by Miami on Saturday but spent just one day with the big club. Emanuel has surrendered seven earned runs over six frames in his two major-league appearances this season.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Selected from Triple-A

The Marlins selected Emanuel's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday. Emanuel appeared in one game for the Marlins in early April, allowing four earned runs across three innings out of the bullpen. He's been much more successful since being sent down to the minors, and he'll now get another chance to stick around in Miami as a multi-inning reliever. Kyle Tyler was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Clears waivers

Emanuel cleared waivers Saturday and was sent outright to Triple-A Jacksonville, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Emanuel was DFA'd by the Marlins on Thursday after giving up four runs across three innings Wednesday. He will remain in the Marlins organization, but he no longer holds a spot on the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old lefty turned in a 6.19 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 84.1 frames with the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate last season, and he will have to turn things around at Jacksonville in order to have a shot at pitching in the majors again this year.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Designated for assignment

Emanuel was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Thursday. Emanuel ate three innings for the Marlins' worn-out bullpen Wednesday, and his reward is being sent out for another fresh arm. It's likely that the lefty will pass through waivers unclaimed.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Added to roster

The Marlins selected Emanuel's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Vladimir Gutierrez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move as the Marlins swap out long relievers from the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster. Emanuel last appeared in the majors in 2021, when he posted a 2.55 ERA over 10 relief appearances with the Astros.

  • Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Gets look from Miami

Emanuel signed a minor-league deal with the Marlins on Thursday, which includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Emanuel last appeared in a major-league game in 2021 and has only 17.2 big-league innings under his belt since being drafted in 2013. He's likely to serve as organizational depth for Miami in 2024.

  • Kent Emanuel: Released by Pittsburgh

Emanuel was released by the Pirates on Thursday. Emanuel posted a 6.19 ERA over 20 appearances -- 13 starts -- with Triple-A Indianapolis. The 31-year-old did pitch well in the minors when healthy last season, but he's dealt with shoulder and elbow problems off and on for the last two years.

  • Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Outrighted to Triple-A

Emanuel (shoulder) was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Emanuel dealt with a shoulder injury for most of the 2022 season and will be outrighted to the minors now that the offseason is underway. It's unclear whether he's expected to be healthy for spring training in 2023.

  • Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Reinstated, sent down

Emanuel (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday. Emanuel was sidelined for over a year due to an internal bracing procedure that he underwent last June, but he began a rehab assignment last month and posted a 2.96 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 24.1 innings over six appearances. Although he's now back to full health, he'll remain in Lehigh Valley since the Phillies don't currently have room for him in their bullpen.

  • Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Rehab moves to Triple-A

Emanuel (elbow) will shift his rehab assignment from Double-A Reading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Lehigh Valley should mark the final stop of the rehab assignment for Emanuel, who has given up four earned runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out eight in 8.2 innings between stops at Double-A and Single-A Clearwater. Emanuel is building back up from the internal bracing procedure he underwent last June, and it's unlikely the Phillies will have a spot in the bullpen available for him once his 30-day rehab window comes to a close and the team has to activate him from the 60-day injured list.

  • Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Claimed by Phillies

Emanuel (elbow) was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Friday. Emanuel made his big-league debut at age 28 last season, posting a 2.55 ERA despite a low 19.1 percent strikeout rate in 17.2 innings of relief. He suffered an elbow injury in late May and was shut down for season-ending surgery, though he at least avoided Tommy John in favor of an internal bracing procedure, which gives him a shot to be ready to pitch at some point during spring training. If healthy and effective, he'll serve as a fine left-handed relief option for the Phillies, but nothing in his track record suggests he's about to make a push to close games.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Transferred to 60-day injured list

Emanuel (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Emanuel's shift to the 60-day injured list is simply procedural since he's slated to miss the rest of the season after he underwent an internal bracing surgical procedure on his left elbow in early June. The surgery carries a nine-month recovery timetable, so the southpaw could be ready to return to game action during spring training. Kyle Tucker (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list as part of a corresponding move.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Set for season-ending surgery

Emanuel will undergo season-ending elbow surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Emanuel has already undergone Tommy John surgery once in his career back in 2015. Elbow troubles (as well as a positive PED test) derailed his entire 2020 season, but he was able to make his big-league debut in late April and produced a 2.55 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 17.2 innings of relief before his elbow flared up again. It's not yet clear whether the procedure he'll undergo this time around will be a second Tommy John or merely a cleanup, but either procedure is expected to wipe out the remainder of his season. If Tommy John surgery is required, he'd be on track to lose the majority of next year as well.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Getting second opinion

Emanuel will receive a second opinion on his left elbow in the coming days, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Emanuel has been dealing with left elbow soreness since Tuesday, and his second opinion could help determine the severity of the injury. A better idea of his return timetable could come into focus once the results of his second examination are known.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Lands on injured list

Emanuel was placed on the injured list with elbow soreness Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Emanuel exited Tuesday's game against the Dodgers with the injury. He'll now miss at least 10 days, though it's not yet clear exactly how long the Astros expect he'll be out.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Leaves with elbow discomfort

Emanuel was removed from Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers with left elbow discomfort, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 28-year-old entered with the bases loaded during the eighth inning and issued a four-pitch walk, and he then exited the contest with the athletic trainer. Emanuel should be considered day-to-day since the severity of the injury remains unclear.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Saves bullpen in big-league debut

Emanuel (1-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 16-2 rout of the Angels, giving up two runs on five hits over 8.2 innings of relief. He struck out five without walking a batter. Jake Odorizzi left the game after only five pitches due to forearm tightness, forcing Emanuel into action for his big-league debut under less-than-ideal circumstances. The 28-year-old rose to the occasion, however, with only solo homers by Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani marring his performance. Emanuel tossed an efficient 90 pitches (65 strikes), and while the Astros' offensive eruption certainly took the pressure off the lefty, he still made a strong case to fill any rotation vacancy that Odorizzi's injury might create. Of course, as he'll be unavailable for a number of days after this performance, he could also be optioned right back to the alternate site to make way for a fresh bullpen arm. Emanuel doesn't have elite raw stuff, working in the low 90s with a sinker and mixing in a slider and changeup, but he opened a lot of eyes with this outing.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Completes ban, receives callup

Emanuel (suspension) was activated from restricted list and called up from the alternate training site Friday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports. The 28-year-old's 80-game suspension was completed Thursday, and he'll now join the Astros for his major-league debut. Emanuel pitched at Triple-A in 2019 with a 3.90 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 81:23 K:BB over 101.2 innings, and he'll begin working out of the bullpen, though his role could change later this season.

  • Astros' Kent Emanuel: Looks sharp Sunday

Emanuel (suspension) struck out three and did not allow a hit or walk during two scoreless innings in Sunday's spring game against the Cardinals. Emanuel still has 18 games remaining on an 80-game suspension slapped on him last August, so he will not be breaking camp with the Astros. However, he could be helpful to the team, which has been handed challenges to its starting depth. Framber Valdez (finger) and Forrest Whitley (arm) face the potential for season-ending surgeries, which puts Emanuel on the radar. "I think he's going to help us at some time during the season," manager Dusty Baker told Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. "We don't know exactly where, but he can pitch." The left-handed Emanuel has made 25 starts and thrown 228.1 innings at the Triple-A level.
