The Cubs selected Brewer's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. After leaning on six relievers to cover the final 4.2 innings of Tuesday's 12-11 extra-inning loss to Arizona, the Cubs will bring Brewer and Hayden Wesneski aboard from Iowa to add some fresh arms to the bullpen for Wednesday's series finale. Brewer has been dominant at Triple-A in the early going with a 1.17 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 7.2 innings, but he's still likely to be in line for only a brief stay with the big club.... Cubs' Colten Brewer: Sent to minor-league camp
The Cubs reassigned Brewer to minor-league camp Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Brewer made a nice impression this spring in yielding just one run over five innings, but there's no room for him in the big-league bullpen. The 31-year-old finished last season in Japan before inking a minor-league deal with the Cubs in January.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Colten Brewer: Inks deal with Cubs
Brewer signed a contract with the Cubs on Jan. 31, according to the pitcher's Instagram account. Whether it's a major- or minor-league contract is not clear at this juncture. Brewer bounced around in 2023, making three appearances for the Yankees while also spending time at their Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and finishing the year with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball. The 31-year-old holds a career 4.98 ERA and 92:61 K:BB over 99.1 innings at the big-league level.... See More ... See Less -
Colten Brewer: Signs with NPB team
Brewer agreed to a deal Tuesday with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Brewer threw 8.1 major-league innings of relief earlier this season with the Yankees and had posted strong numbers at their Triple-A affiliate, but New York released him July 13 and now he'll head to Japan to continue his professional career.... Colten Brewer: Headed to Japan
The Yankees released Brewer on Sunday. Brewer made his big-league debut in 2019 with the Padres and also pitched in parts of three seasons for the Red Sox before signing a minor-league deal with Tampa Bay last December. The righty was traded to the Yankees just before the start of the season and got into three games with the club, serving up three homers and allowing four runs over 8.1 innings. After being granted his release, the 30-year-old is expected to continue his career overseas in Japan after compiling a 4.98 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 92:61 K:BB across 99.1 major-league frames.... Yankees' Colten Brewer: Remains in organization
The Yankees outrighted Brewer to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after he cleared waivers Monday. Brewer will remain in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put in a waiver claim for the journeyman right-hander when he was removed from the Yankees' 40-man roster Friday. Prior to being designated for assignment, Brewer gave up four earned runs on six hits and three walks across 8.1 innings out of the New York bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Colten Brewer: Designated for assignment
Brewer was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday. Brewer was tagged for four runs over 3.1 relief innings during Thursday's lopsided loss to the Twins. With the Yankees' bullpen needing reinforcements, he becomes a roster casualty.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Colten Brewer: Joins big-league bullpen
Brewer's contract was selected by the Yankees on Saturday. The move was an expected one after Brewer arrived from the Rays on Thursday. In 91 career MLB innings, the righty owns a 5.04 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Estevan Florial was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Colten Brewer: Sent to NYY on assignment clause
Brewer was sent to the Yankees on Thursday via an assignment clause, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. And he'll also be added to the 40-man roster in New York, per Topkin. Brewer inked a minor-league contract with the Rays over the winter and did not manage to claim a spot in their Opening Day bullpen despite yielding just one (unearned) run with 15 strikeouts across 9.1 innings in the Grapefruit League.... Rays' Colten Brewer: Moved to MiLB camp
The Rays reassigned Brewer to minor-league camp Wednesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Brewer was signed to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training in December. The right-hander registered a 4.76 ERA for Triple-A Omaha in the Kansas City organization in 2022, and he's likely to serve as a bullpen option for the Bulls in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Colten Brewer: Lands minor-league deal with Rays
Brewer signed a minor-league deal with the Rays on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Brewer spent the 2022 season with the Royals, though he pitched exclusively with Triple-A Omaha. He maintained a 4.76 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with a 42:18 K:BB across 39.2 innings while pitching out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Colten Brewer: Nabs MiLB deal from KC
Brewer signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Monday. The deal presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training, where Brewer will likely be competing for a spot in the Royals' Opening Day bullpen. The 29-year-old right-hander spent the 2021 campaign in the Red Sox organization, seeing most of his action at Triple-A Worcester aside from a one-inning relief outing with the big club in which he served up four earned runs on four hits and three walks.... Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Demoted to Triple-A
Brewer was designated for assignment Thursday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Brewer gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks in one inning in his lone appearance in the majors this season. This move clears a roster spot for Brandon Workman, who was promoted in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Recalled by Boston
Brewer was recalled by the Red Sox on Friday. Brewer hasn't yet made a major-league appearance this year, but he posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in four innings across four relief appearances for Triple-A Worcester. He should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever with the big-league club.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Optioned down
Brewer was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. His latest stint in the majors lasted all of one day, coinciding with Garrett Whitlock's brief stint on the COVID list. Brewer still has not made an appearance for the big club this season after battling shoulder inflammation earlier in the year.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Recalled to majors
Brewer was recalled by the Red Sox on Saturday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. Garrett Whitlock (COVID-19) was feeling symptoms after receiving the vaccine and is on the injured list. Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Battling shoulder inflammation
Brewer was diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation following a recent bullpen session, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Instead, Boston called up reliever Eduard Bazardo.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Won't make Opening Day roster
The Red Sox optioned Brewer to their alternate site Tuesday. Brewer wasn't able to crack the Red Sox's Opening Day bullpen after being roughed up for seven earned runs on 10 hits and a walk over 6.1 innings during the Grapefruit League slate. He'll likely report to Triple-A Worcester to begin the season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Faces hitters Sunday
Brewer (finger) pitched a live batting practice session Sunday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Brewer ended the past season on the injured list after sustaining a right third finger strain Sept. 1, but he's seemingly back to full health as Boston prepares to begin its Grapefruit League schedule Sunday. Before succumbing to the injury, the right-hander filled a varied role for the Boston pitching staff, working as starter, bulk reliever and a more traditional reliever across his 11 appearances. He wasn't particularly effective in any capacity, however, posting a 5.61 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 25.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Colten Brewer: Removed from player pool
Brewer (finger) was removed from Boston's 60-player pool Thursday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. The 27-year-old was already ruled out for the season after being moved to the 45-day injured list, and his removal from the pool allows the team to add another player.
