Pepiot allowed three runs on two hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out three over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Red Sox on Wednesday. Pepiot returned from a lower left leg contusion that sent him to the injured list. He was cruising through the first four innings, but he put three straight batters on base to begin the fifth. Richard Lovelady couldn't slow down the Boston offense, leaving Pepiot to settle for a no-decision. The 26-year-old right-hander threw just 37 of 66 pitches for strikes in his return from injury. Pepiot now has a 3.98 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB over 40.2 innings across eight starts. It's unclear if his limited workload came from a pitch count or just the natural flow of the game. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.... See More ... See Less

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Activated ahead of start
The Rays activated Pepiot (lower leg) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Red Sox in Tampa. Pepiot will rejoin the rotation Wednesday after missing the previous two weeks with a lower left leg contusion. The right-hander didn't make a rehab start, so it's possible he will be relatively limited from a pitch-count perspective versus Boston. Pepiot will bring a 3.68 ERA and nifty 41:11 K:BB over 36.2 innings into Wednesday's proceedings.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Rejoining rotation Wednesday
Pepiot (lower leg) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 26-year-old righty landed on the shelf with a bruised lower left leg after his May 5 start versus the Mets, but he'll return Wednesday after being sidelined for the 15-day minimum. Any workload limitations for Pepiot will likely be minor, given the brevity of his absence.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Successful bullpen session
Pepiot (leg) threw a three-inning bullpen session ahead of Friday's game against the Blue Jays, MLB.com reports. Pepiot continues to make progress toward a return, as he's now thrown three successful bullpen sessions. His activation could come as soon as the Rays' upcoming series against the Red Sox, though no final decision has been reached.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Taking steps toward return
Pepiot (leg) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is likely to throw a simulated game in the near future, MLB.com reports. The exact next steps for Pepiot are unclear, but he is on the road with the team and is still aiming to return after a minimum term on the 15-day injured list. If he can reach that goal, he would line up to start at some point during the Rays' homestand next week against the Red Sox and Royals.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Throws off mound
Pepiot (leg) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports. Pepiot landed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday after sustaining a lower left leg contusion when he was hit by a line drive in his start against the Mets last Sunday. He noted that he felt good after the throwing session Sunday, and he could return from the IL when first eligible May 21. The right-hander confirmed after the bullpen session that he doesn't expect to need a rehab start in the minors prior to being activated.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Able to throw
Pepiot (leg) was able to play catch Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Pepiot was placed on the injured list the same day, so he'll be out until at least May 21. However, he has stated that he plans to return after the 15-day minimum, and his ability to continue to throw suggests he'll be back quickly.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Likely to be placed on IL
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that the Rays are "likely" to place Pepiot on the 15-day injured list after the right-hander took a 107.5 mile-per-hour line drive off his left leg in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Mets, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. He'll likely be replaced in the Tampa Bay rotation by Taj Bradley (pectoral), who is on track to return from the IL to start this weekend against the Yankees. Pepiot isn't dealing with any structural damage to his leg after both an X-ray and CT scan came back negative, so he could be ready to return from the IL in the minimum 15 days once any lingering pain and soreness subsides. Over his seven starts this season, Pepiot has gone 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 41:11 K:BB across 36.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: X-rays return negative
Pepiot had X-rays come back negative and was diagnosed with a bruised lower left leg after exiting Sunday's start against the Mets, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. The 26-year-old appears to have avoided a serious injury after being struck in the leg by a 107-mph comebacker, which prompted his exit during the third inning Sunday. Pepiot could remain on turn to pitch against the Yankees next weekend if he bounces back well from the injury over the next few days.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Departs Sunday's start
Pepiot was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets after being struck in the left leg by a comebacker, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. The right-hander was hit by a line drive that came off the bat at 107 mph, ending his day during the third inning. Pepiot finished with three runs allowed on three hits and a walk over two innings. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, leaving the 26-year-old's availability for his next turn through the rotation up in the air.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Turns in scoreless outing
Pepiot (3-2) yielded two hits over six shutout frames Monday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Brewers. Pepiot was nearly untouchable Monday, allowing just one Brewer to reach scoring position. At one point, he retired 14 consecutive batters. He's produced three straight quality starts and four in his six appearances this year. Over his last outings, Pepiot has given up just two runs with an 18:5 K:BB through 18 innings. He'll carry a 3.12 ERA into his next start, which is projected to be at home against the Mets this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Allows two homers in loss
Pepiot (1-2) took the loss against the Giants on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings. Pepiot got off to a bit of a rough start but was able to limit the damage early, allowing one run in the first inning while needing 24 pitches to get through the frame. He then went on to retire eight of the next nine batters he faced before surrendering a solo homer to Thairo Estrada with two outs in the top of the fourth. It was one of two home runs allowed on the day for Pepiot, and he's now given up at least four runs in two of his first three starts to open the season. On a positive note, Pepiot has produced a nice 20:5 K:BB over that early stretch and has gone at least five innings in each outing.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Tagged with six runs
Pepiot (0-1) allowed six runs on four hits and four walks over 5.2 frames Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against Texas. Pepiot served up a three-run homer to Josh Jung in the first inning but was able to keep the Rangers off the board for the next four frames. Texas broke through again in the sixth inning to tack on three more runs. Pepiot threw just 53 of 94 pitches for strikes, including 11 whiffs. He'll look for better results in his next outing, which is currently projected to be in Colorado this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Fans three in first spring outing
Pepiot allowed three hits and walked one while striking out three across two scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. Pepiot allowed three hitters to reach base in the first inning and stranded the bases loaded by striking out Davis Schneider. He pitched a much cleaner second frame to end his spring debut on a high note. Pepiot should fill an Opening Day rotation spot and will look to turn in a full season of work after an injury-plagued 2023 campaign with the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: In mix for NLDS Game 3
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Pepiot is "in play" to pitch in Game 3 of the NLDS on Wednesday at Arizona, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports. Pepiot could either work in bulk relief behind Lance Lynn or get the start himself as the best-of-five National League Division Series shifts from Dodger Stadium to Chase Field. Pepiot made only eight appearances -- three starts -- in the majors during the regular season but dominated to the tune of a 2.14 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 38:5 K:BB in 42 innings.... See More ... Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Working behind opener Tuesday
Pepiot is slated to pitch in bulk relief behind an opening pitcher in Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Luca Evans of The Orange County Register reports. Though Dave Roberts didn't announce which pitcher he would use in front of Pepiot, the 26-year-old right-hander will stick in the rotation and is expected to cover the brunt of the innings Tuesday. After turning in an 0.86 ERA, 0.52 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB in 21 innings over his first four big-league outings of the season, Pepiot took a step back in his most recent outing last Wednesday, taking a loss to the Padres after giving up four runs on six hits over six innings.... Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Struggles with homers Wednesday
Pepiot (2-1) allowed four runs on six hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Padres. Pepiot had allowed just two runs across his first 21 innings this season. That changed Wednesday when he allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto and a three-run blast to Luis Campusano. Despite the mediocre start, Pepiot is at a 2.00 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 27 innings over five appearances (three starts). The right-hander hasn't looked out of place in the majors, and he should be penciled in for a home start versus the Tigers next week.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Possible waiver wire pickups
It's not the way anyone wanted it to happen, but Julio Urias' legal and personal troubles may have finally cleared a spot for Pepiot. We can hope, anyway. The 26-year-old is back for another turn Thursday, and if it goes much like his previous three, in which he allowed two earned runs in 14 innings, he may well stick around this time. What stands out most in those three appearances is that he walked just two and threw 67 percent of his pitches for strikes. In fact, between the majors and minors this year, he has issued just 1.7 BB/9, throwing 65 percent of his pitches for strikes. That's compared to 4.4 and 63 percent last year. If he's solved his control woes without sacrificing the strikeout potential he's demonstrated in the past, then he's poised to be a big winner for the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Recalled ahead of Thursday's start
Pepiot was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Pepiot is slated to start Thursday's game in Miami. The young right-hander has been terrific in three appearances (one start) for the Dodgers this season, holding a 1.29 ERA and 14:2 K:BB over 14 innings. The Dodgers are in need of rotation help, giving Pepiot the chance to make multiple starts down the stretch if he continues to pitch well.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Earns win over Arizona
Pepiot (1-0) allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three over five shutout innings to earn the win in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Diamondbacks. Pepiot threw 54 of 84 pitches for strikes in his first start and third appearance for the Dodgers this year. He's been excellent while working on a starter's schedule over the last couple of weeks, allowing just two runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out 14 over 14 innings. With rosters expanding Friday, Pepiot may be able to stay in the majors this time around -- his previous two outings came as the 27th man in doubleheaders. With that in mind, he's tentatively lined up for a road appearance in Miami next week.... See More ... See Less
