Gabriel just returned to full-contact work at Sunday's practice, so there was little evidence that he was close to making his Pelicans debut, but that could come Monday night. Gabriel split last season between Sacramento and Portland, appearing in 30 total games and logging 7.8 minutes per game off the bench. He's unlikely to be a major contributor for the Pels, though New Orleans doesn't have a ton of quality depth at the forward positions.

  Gabriel (knee) began participating in contact work Sunday, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. The 23-year-old has been considered day-to-day with right knee tendinitis, and his resumption of contact work is a significant step toward making his season debut. Per Clark, coach Stan Van Gundy indicated Gabriel is close to being available, but it may be awhile before he's up to speed enough to see game action.
