Sanu is no longer sporting a cast or boot on his surgically repaired ankle, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.

Making his way back from early March surgery, Sanu is now ready to begin the rehab process. He hurt his ankle in November during his third game with the Patriots, missing one contest and seeing limited playing time in three others. Sanu returned to a three-down role in mid-December, but he provided only eight catches for 72 yards on 18 targets over the final three weeks of the regular season. The Patriots gave up a second-round pick to acquire Sanu in an October trade with the Falcons, but that doesn't necessarily make him a lock for the 2020 roster, considering his $6.5 million base salary doesn't contain any guarantees (per OvertheCap.com). The team may want to discuss an extension or pay cut to reduce the cap hit for Sanu heading into his age-31 campaign.
