Smith (undisclosed) was waived by Detroit with an injury settlement Wednesday.
Smith played one game for the Lions last season, injuring his neck and suffering a concussion in Week 5 before spending the rest of the campaign on the practice-squad injured list. It's unclear if he's still dealing with effects of that issue. He'll be free to sign another contract once healthy.
