Girardi's contract will be bought out by the Rangers, the team announced Wednesday.

The move to buyout Girardi will provide New York with an estimated $2.9 million in cap saving for the 2017-18 campaign. The veteran registered his lowest point total (15) since the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign (14). While fans will no doubt be sad to see the gritty 33-year-old go after 11 years in Rangers blue, his production simply doesn't live up to his salary at this point in his career. Once the buyout is completed, Girardi will be free to join the NHL team of his choosing.
