Pickard has been selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, Frank Seravalli of TSN reports.

Pickard figures to serve as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury for Vegas. In 50 games for the league-worst Avalanche last season, Pickard posted a 15-31-2 record to go along with a 2.98 GAA and .904 save percentage. Those are some ugly numbers, but Pickard played well for Canada at the World Championships and still has potential at age 25. This was a smart selection by the Golden Knights.
